Intra-course Assignment 2 |
The communication of complex scientific concepts to the general public and society is an important skill for scientists and medical doctors. It requires good understanding of the scientific material and the ability to write in a clear, simple and concise way without the use of scientific terms or jargon. Your task is to write a 500 word article which would be suitable for publication in a broadsheet newspaper (such as the Times, Telegraph or Guardian) about the article: Stokes et al, History of cigarette smoking is associated with higher limbic GABAA receptor availability [pdf], Neuroimage 2012 Dec 14. A good article should summarise the study accurately and succinctly. It should be written in terms understandable to the lay person, but should not patronise the reader. It should excite interest and entertain, while avoiding hyperbole. Example of similar article |
