Duration of Elective
Students should plan a minimum of 7 (seven) weeks attachment in one hospital/clinic.

Projects: Are you considering undertaking projects, including audits?

Assessing risks during the elective
You are required to assess the risks which might arise during travel to and from the place of your elective, the area of accommodation, day-to-day travel and local circumstances. You are also required to state why you think you are prepared for the elective through skills and knowledge, and to devise meaningful learning objects. On return you should reflect upon the experience and comment whether the learning objectives were met. Complete the Risk Assessment/Approval form.

Split electives
Only in exceptional circumstances will any student be allowed to arrange two venues and even then they would normally be expected to be in the same country.

Instances were a split elective may be necessary will include those placements that take incoming students for periods less than 7-weeks, e.g. some US & Australian institutions.

Any proposal for a split elective must be cleared with the FEO and the Elective Coordinator or Deputy, prior to making arrangements.

A request to undertake a split elective must be made by completing the split-electives form [Word].

Vaccines may required for additional destinations to that of the first elective placement and these will be charged for. You will need to know the price of relevant jabs and of any associated Pathology tests. No refunds will be given in the event of a change of plan relating to the second placement.

Costs of vaccines and tests for 2nd destinations of students going on split electives

Vaccines will not be administered without your split elective paper work. Wendy Pearson will send on the names of students who have permission to split their elective to Occupational Health. You need to take a copy of your split elective form with you to your appointment.
