Risk Assessments
College Policy requires that a risk assessment is done for all projects before starting work. The person initiating the project is responsible to do this assessment, and this will normally be the Academic supervisor. However, in the case of a project taking place during a student elective, this responsibility will fall to the student if he or she designs and initiates the project when on location. Risk Assessments are part of your professional skills portfolio.

If you propose undertaking a project, you should undertake the risk assessment when planning for the elective, and the best preparation will be to complete the College Risk Assessment Foundation Training (RAFT). This can be completed online: http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/staffdevelopment/safety/index/raft

You should then follow up by doing a practice Risk Assessment, which should be checked out by a trained safety person, before you leave for the elective.
Contact Dr Michael Barrett or Wendy Pearson if you require help.

You are also advised to take blank Risk Assessment forms [Word] so that you can review the working practices for the work when you start.
