The aim of the course is to ensure that each student can take a history and carry out a cardiological examination of a patient with heart disease. You must be able to interpret the history and examination so that you can make a clinical diagnosis. You must also be able to understand the role of investigative and therapeutic procedures in patients with heart disease. You must have a sound knowledge of the main clinical syndromes in cardiology, their pathophysiology, clinical presentations, role of investigations, and management. |
The Year 6 cardiology attachment course consists of a two-week cardiology attachment at one of the following major cardiology centres: Ealing Hospital, Hammersmith Hospital, Royal Brompton Hospital, Central Middlsex Hospital, Northwick Park Hospital and Harefield Hospital. - be proficient in establishing the history and examining the patient with heart disease.
- be able to make a clinical diagnosis from the history and examination and understand the nature and significance of investigations carried out.
- be familiar with what the investigations involve from a patient’s point of view and appreciate what interventional cardiology means to the patient.
- have an understanding of therapeutic procedures from the patient’s point of view
- have a sound clinical and theoretical knowledge of the main clinical syndromes in cardiology
