About the quizzes
Students love mock exams. A series of time-availability quizzes
is provided as part of this Pathology course. There are several available
on Blackboard. There are also a small number of compulsory quizzes,
that should each take
no longer than 20 minutes each. They are in the EMQ
format used for the end-of-year examination
on this course. They are not intended to be used as mock exams, more
that you use them as a learning tool. Try them now, and later for
revision.
This page explains how to access them
using Blackboard,
gives a list of quizzes and their availabilities, and
tells you how you can make repeated attempts
How to access
them
Firstly, click on the College Cluster PC desktop Blackboard icon.
This will take you to Blackboard.
Enter your username and usual Imperial password.
You have been registered for 'Year 5 Pathology (2012-13)'
Click on 'Year 5 Pathology (2012-13).'
You will then see a list of quizzes.
You will see the home page icon for the Compulsory Quizzes
that need to be done by deadlines (see below). There are also revision
quizzes
that
will appear week by week. The purpose of the revision quiz is for you
to revise DURING THE RELEVANT WEEK OF THE COURSE.
There is no point planning to leave the quizzes 'until you have done
some work'. There will be more quizzes for that kind of revision.
There are approximately 40 revision
quizzes (divided up into 10 for
each week).
There are also 4 compulsory quizzes,
and a mock
exam all of which MUST be
taken before they go off line.
If you wish to revise the EMQ-style
of questions, answer the 'example
colours'
quiz in the Compulsory Quizzes section.
• Click on the title of the quiz to run it.
• Read the instructions and turn off any popup blocking software.
• Click on “begin assessment” and the question will open in a new window.
• Answer the questions, clicking on ”Save and view next” once you have
completed each question.
• Click on “FINISH” when you have answered all the questions and then
“OK” to “are you sure”.
• Click on OK again, once you have successfully submitted the quiz.
You will then see a list of all available assessments, and you can
click on an assessment a second time to get feedback and your score.
Getting feedback
Click on a quiz, as if to attempt it a second time. If you have already
attempted it, you will see an extra option “View submission” which
was not present the first time. Clicking on this option will show
you how many times you have attempted a particular quiz, and also
enable you to view the correct answers and get some comments, and
access to questions and answers obtained on last years discussion
board, which are very instructive.
There is often a link in the feedback boxes to previous discussion
boards.
When you should attempt the Quizzes
The first compulsory quiz should be
attempted and marked by midnight on 5 July 2012, when it will go off line. Please try
and do this quiz on the evening of Monday
2 July or Tuesday
3 July.
The second quiz will need to be completed by Wednesday 11 July, the third by Tuesday 17 July and the fourth by Friday 20 July. You
will also be expected to complete two mock online exams in the
last week of the course. The first goes offline at midnight
on
Tuesday
24 July and the second on 26 July, in readiness for the real formative exam on Friday 27 July.
As in the real exam, you have 1 minute per option (about 5 minutes for a five-part question).
Your stored score will be the highest score that you have ever achieved
on that quiz.
Try and revise before you attempt the mock exam, and see what score
you get.
It is probably best to do these exams on Tuesday 24 July or evening of
Wednesday 25 July.
Can
I redo the quiz?
Once you have access to a quiz, you will always have access to it for
repeated attempts. Your stored score will be the highest score that
you have ever achieved on that quiz.
If you have any queries about the functioning
of Blackboard please
contact Professor Karim Meeran or Dr Mike Barrett
