Developing a new computational research section, and therefore also very keen to recruit students with backgrounds in bioinformatics, computer science and/or statistical modelling who are interested in applications to biological research.

Career pathways for holders of MB/PhD [Word]

Am I eligible? (for students on the 6-year MBBS course)
  • Eligibility for entry to MB/PhD includes (a) an excellent performance in the early years of the MBBS course, ie above average marks in Years 1 and 2; (b) No more than one examination re-sit* of either an examination paper at the end-of-year Year 1 or Year 2 exams or of a Year 3 clinical exam (eg OSCE); and (c) a BSc classification of at least 2i class honours.
  • Only students who have passed, at the first attempt, all parts of the end-of-year exams in Years 1, 2 and 3 will be permitted to temporarily exit the MBBS course in order to undertake a PhD. *see above
  • Students who have no more than one previous exam re-sit should submit an MB/PhD appeal [Word]

Please note that the above eligibility criteria is for obtaining permission to apply for an MB/PhD. The PhD studentships we advertise above may come each with its own individual requirements of the candidate. You must not apply for an MB/PhD (studentship) without having first obtained permission from Dr Laki Buluwela, who will liaise with the Deputy Director of Education, Faculty of Medicine.
