The
course is divided in two parts: |
First
Part: |
It
comprises 2 e-modules: Descriptive Statistics and
Hypothesis Testing. Each module contains a theoretical session
and an SPSS demo. In the theoretical session basic statistical
concepts will be presented, while in the SPSS demo students
will be introduced to basic data analysis skills using the
SPSS software. |
There
will be 2 Practical exercises which will require students
to download some data and then perform a basic data analysis
using SPSS. |
There
is a formative
exam (not compulsory) which is available. Students are strongly encouraged
to take this exam as its format resembles the final exam.
Note that the mark in this exam will not affect in any way
the final mark. |
Second
Part: |
The
second part comprises of an e-module 'Evidence Based
Medicine'. The scope of the e-learning module is to
develop critical appraisal skills. It consists of 10 exercises
in which students are presented with abstracts or parts of
articles from the medical literature and are asked some questions
about them. It is fundamental that the students take this
module as critical appraisal skills will be part of the final
examinations. Lecture slides will be made available through
Blackboard. |
Discussion
Boards: |
Two
discussion boards have been created, titled Descriptive Statistics
and Hypothesis Testing, and they have been linked to the corresponding
modules. Students are strongly encouraged to post on the discussion
boards any question related to course material. Please note
that these discussion boards are anonymous, however students
are encouraged to identify themselves. Participation to discussion
boards will not affect the final mark. The discussion boards
will be checked periodically. |
