Year 3, 2012-13 Clinical methods teaching

Welcome from Primary Care

Welcome to the Clinical Methods Teaching (CMT) component of the year 3 course.
CMT gives you the chance to learn, practise and consolidate skills. It should complement your learning in the clinical skills lab and on the wards. All our teachers are trained GP tutors who have set time aside to teach you at their surgeries and who will arrange for you to practise your skills on real patients in the community.
Most students find CMT invaluable in their preparation for the OSCE. The course is designed to allow for some flexibility in topics, dependant on each group’s learning needs.
The practice to which you are allocated will be on the intranet.
Professionalism
Please make sure that you attend all the sessions, and are punctual. You will also need to plan your sessions with your GP tutor. Attendance is compulsory and will be monitored and recorded on your assessment form. GPs often ask patients to come to the surgery specifically for teaching: so you must notify your GP directly if you are not able to attend, or patients may not be prepared to give their time for your learning in the future.
If you have any concerns about your GP attachment please let the course administrator know by email or speak to the clinical tutor at your hospital so that the problem can be sorted as soon as possible. I can also be contacted by email.
The CMT course is very popular among students, and we rely on your constructive feedback to keep improving it. So please take a few minutes to complete your SOLE feedback (positive or negative) after each attachment. Please be professional and specific when giving feedback as your comments will be fed back to your tutors.

I hope you enjoy the CMT attachments and the best of luck with your Year 3 studies,

Dr Sarvesh Saini
