Half-skeletons for loan to Year 2 and Graduate entry students

Experience has shown that access to a human half-skeleton is a very valuable learning aid in anatomy.  We have a stock of plastic half-skeletons available to issue one to pairs of students for the period October 2012 until the June 2013 exam period.  The arrangements will be as follows:

  • You will need to pair up with another student with whom you have arranged to share the half-skeleton.
  • You and your partner will jointly be responsible for the safe-keeping and condition of the half-skeleton. If you lose or damage any part of it, you will be required to reimburse the College (£216 for an entire half-skeleton, or manufacturer’s replacement prices for individual bones). Such a charge will be apportioned equally to both members of the pair.
  • To be issued with a half-skeleton, each partner must provide an undated, signed deposit cheque for the sum of £108, made payable to Imperial College London. The cheques will only be banked in the event of the non-return of the half-skeleton when scheduled, or if it is damaged. A Skeleton Loan Form must be signed in agreement by each individual upon receipt of the half-skeleton.
  • Do not bring your loan half-skeletons to classes; osteological material will be provided in all classes.

Checked and numbered half-skeletons can be collected from the Human Anatomy Unit, room 14L10, 14th floor, Laboratory Block, on the following dates and times.

15-19 October 2012
0930 – 1300

1400 – 1630

22-26 October 2012
0930 – 1300

1400 – 1630

29 October - 2 November 2012
0930 – 1300

1400 – 1630

Please be aware that skeleton collection is restricted to the aforementioned dates and times.  Any remaining skeletons after the above dates will be made available to students from other anatomy classes; therefore, skeleton loan will NOT be available at any other time.

Note that both members of a pair must attend together because both must sign for receipt of the half-skeleton.

In the event of any queries please contact the Human Anatomy Unit directly through one of the following:
Miss Laura McMinn
/ Miss Rachael Waddington / Mr Lee Dennis

I believe that you will find that this is a valuable support for your learning. If the feedback supports this view, we will seek funds to provide half-skeletons to all Year 2 students so that the inconvenience of pairing can be avoided in future.

The department is unable to offer the option of purchasing the skeletons, however at the individuals choice, this may be possible through Medicet.com , tel: 01432 263939.
