These sites offer more general information on careers. They offer valuable advice on applying for jobs, CVs and interviews even though some may not have appropriate vacancies.

  • Careers Advisory Service is the Imperial College website. This is an excellent site which would be a good starting point for general information and advice.

  • Imperial employability web site - for those who wish to benefit from personal development planning and it should be used in a progressive way throughout your studies.
  • London Deanery Careers Unit was set up in September 2008 in order to provide a first-class careers support service for doctors in London.
  • NHS medical careers is a resource for making informed decisions when planning a career in medicine and related fields. Register online to start building your personal profile, using self-assessment exercises and the detailed information about what options are available. This website will take you through the four stages of career planning. Comprehensive data on each medical specialty includes workforce statistics, competition ratios, growth areas and projections about future opportunities. A bookmarking tool allows you to save key facts about specialties that interest you.

  • www.careerzone-uk.com deals with all aspects of job hunting. It gives good advice on interviews, including how to dress, what to take with you and tips on body language.

  • www.jobs.ac.uk is the official website for Higher Education. You can register your specifications with the site, they will then email you with appropriate vacancies as they appear.

  • www.sciencejobs.com has information on careers and jobs in biomedical sciences.

  • www.pharmiweb.com provides information for pharmaceutical, medical and life sciences professionals on all the leading companies in these areas. It tells you about working for such companies, training, development and job opportunities.

  • www.wellcome.ac.uk is a guide to the world’s largest medical research charity. A comprehensive website which includes details of the recently launched grants scheme, job vacancies, and the Trust’s activities in the public understanding of science.

  • www.cvspecial.co.uk tells you how to prepare the perfect CV - content, design and what makes a bad CV.
